A harsh judgment

Thomas Friedman in the New York Times. If we find W.M.D. in Iraq, but lose Iraq, Mr. Bush will not only go down as a failed president, but one who made the world even more dangerous for Americans. If we find no W.M.D., but build a better Iraq - one that proves that a multiethnic, multireligious Arab state can rule itself in a decent way - Mr. Bush will survive his hyping of the W.M.D. issue, and the world will be a more hospitable and safer place for all Americans.

Friedman is a demonic liar to whom noone should listen. He has a bland pointless way of talking that buries the reader in weak reflections that all boil down after a dull period of fuddlement to "what the hell is this jerk saying?" Depressing verbiage like "The world is flat", "ruling itself in a decent way", and i guess a variety of the terms used by the great Fountain of Verbal Gloom, the New York TImes, his masters, are all calculated to leave the reader with a feeling of completely passive confusion, coupled with a knowitall attitude.I despise him and his vile masters, and his creepy little moustache.
That being said, finding WMD - just one nuke, for instance - would have saved the US from looking like a mean drunk with half a million soldiers at his command. That would not have offset the hatred of America. Havingf a decent Iraq, bland and pointless like Friedman himself would expose the US to more hatred for our complete ruination of a Middle Eastern country. A win on Friedman terms would be grounds for more anti Americanism every where.

Thomas Freidman pisses me off quite often, especially after he wrote The World Is Flat, and it was vogue to hang on his every word, no matter how stupid or how obvious they are.And I think he missed the most likely option here: If we don't find WMDs yet we create a catastrophe in the Middle East and a giant increase in anti-American sentiment and terrorist recruitment -- I think that still makes him a miserable failure, and one that made the world even more dangerous for Americans.
